Comparing the board to my own fish I was very much surprised that it was faster and smoother to ride. Although it has a slightly different design to my own fish the use of different materials did not hamper the board at all ,in fact it improved the whole overall experience. "

Kati and me planed a surf trip to the south of spain.
We had a different destination further away in mind, but the economy crises canceled our plan. Actually i am glad we went to spain.
The swell forecast for El palmar looked good for this week.
Uwe has told me about his "green board" project a few weeks earlier, so i was looking forward to have a try on this environmentally surf board.
The board is supposed to be the perfect fish to have fun with in smaller conditions.
The shape reminds me of Danavon Frankenreiters boards, lots of volume and funky, old school fish style. It´s not 100 % the board i used to surf, but isn´t it interesting to surf different boards?
We arrived monday afternoon at El Palmar beach. It was almost high tight and it seemed to me difficult to catch any wave at the sandbar outside.
For thoose people, who already surfed El Palmar know how strange it can be between high and low tide.
Only the big waves where breaking on the first sandbar, the rest disapeared in deep water before hitting the beachbreak.
I caught a few waves outside and i was suprised how easy and early you can take off in waves flat like the horizon.
It´s also incredible how fast the board accelerates and how quick it responses.

To check how the board works in steeper waves, i paddled to the beachbreak. The waves where heavy and almost closing out. Fast hollow beach break. Almost like France.
I took off on the first wave and i almost wiped out. The twin fins hold me good in the transition so i didn´t spinn out at all.
After the first buttom turn the board turned into a real speed mashine
I love to take off on waves surfing down the line and just making more and more speed. Its a real down the line killer and unbelievable fast.
Of course its not as radical as a shord board, but you are able to catch any wave in any conditions. And its a lot of fun too.
My Girlfriend Kati surfed the board a day later and had a great session. Even in shitty onshore days. Its a secret weappon,without a doubt!
We had a great trip and some good sessions with this board. And after a week we finally brought the board back in one piece.

Thanks Uwe for being part of the green board projekt.
I loved the idea from the beginning on.A board made of natural products.
And i like the idea of a "green board",traveling around europe.
So everybody can surf it and see that it's possible to make the same 
good board quality with natural foam and resin.
I surfed it in excelent beach break conditions.I had a lot of 
fun.It's an allround board,every intermediate surfer can handle.

El pasado dia 1 y 2 de Enero tuvimos el placer (Juan“El maestro”Martinez, Danny Boy, Miguel de los Reyes y Alex Ruiz) de poder probar el trabajo del shaper alemán Uwe Kluba en las playas de Punta Umbría (Huelva).

 Para empezar he de adelantarles a los próximos raiders que vayan a disfrutar de esta tabla, que no esperen una tabla para ejecutar maniobras al limite ni aereos perdidos en grados de rotación. Lo que van a encontrar es una tabla que no se si por su shape “retro”, por los materiales que esta fabricada o por el entusiasmo que ha puesto el maestro Uwe en este proyecto, os hara tener una sensación de estar en perfecta armonía tú, la tabla y la ola, sensación que, nosotros particularmente, en muy pocas tablas hemos experimentado. Con la GREENSURFBOARD parece que el tiempo se detien desde el primer momento que pones los pies sobre ella. Notas como los giros tienen que ser manejados desde el pie trasero para que sus dos únicas quillas te lleven donde tu quieres. Pero sin duda lo mejor, es la facilidad para coger olas. Surfeamos olas de poco tamaño, pero nos hizo disfrutar como si estuviéramos surfeando olas perfectas de por lo menos un metro.

La paradoja de nuestras sesiones con la “tabla ecológica”, es que lo hicimos en las playas de Punta Umbría (HUELVA), donde la invasión turística e inmobiliaria están acabando con el entorno natural del que goza este pueblo pesquero. La locura se desato en 2007 con el boom del ladrillo. Con el plan del ayuntamiento de construir 7000 viviendas y nuevas plazas hoteleras utilizando para ello zonas de paraje natural. En 2008 GREENPEACE denuncio la deforestación de 60.000 m2 de montes públicos para nuevas construcciones en el litoral. Además esto conlleva un turismo de bajo nivel cultural que no respeta el medio natural en el que se encuentra, y el ayuntamiento mientras vea engordar sus cuentas no pone medidas “serias” para evitarlo. Lo triste es que esto no ha hecho nada mas que empezar, ya hay proyectos como, construir hoteles hasta la localidad mas cercana (El Portil) destrozando la poca zona natural que queda ó el de construir un puerto deportivo en La Flecha de El Rompido .

Nos sentimos afortunados de haber participado en este proyecto de KLUBA SURFBOARDS. Os animamos a que junto a todos nosotros, seamos una misma voz para luchar contra la contaminación, la globalización y la manipulación de las grandes multinacionales que atentan dia a día contra nuestra forma de vida como surfers, y sobre todo personas

GREENBOARD in PUNTA UMBRÍA

January 1st and 2nd we (Juan “El Maestro” Martinez, Danny Boy, Miguel de los Reyes and Alex Ruiz) had the pleasure of trying out the work of German shaper Uwe Kluba in the waves off Punta Umbría (Huelva).

First of all, we have to warn the next riders who’ll enjoy this board that you shouldn´t expect to pull off extreme maneuvers or lose yourself in your aerials. What you’re going to get is a board that either because of its retro shape, what it’s made of, or Uwe’s enthusiasm for the project, will put you, it, and the wave in perfect harmony—a sensation that we’ve not experienced on many boards. The moment you set your feet on the GREENSURFBOARD, time seems to stop. You notice how the turns have to be executed by the back foot so that its two fins take you where you want. But by far the best part is how easy it is to catch a wave. We surf small waves but we had as much fun as if we were surfing perfect one meter waves.

The irony of our sessions with the “ecological board” is that they took place on the beach in Punta Umbría (Huelva), where the tourism and real estate invasion are destroying the natural setting of this fishing village. The insanity broke loose with the construction boom of 2007, when the city government made plans to build 7000 homes and hotels on nature reserves, and in 2008 Greenpeace denounced the deforestation of 60,000 square meters of public woodlands for the purpose of new construction along the coast. Moreover, this type of construction leads to culturally unaware tourism that shows no respect for the natural environment, and so long as they see rising tax revenue, the municipal government does nothing to stop it. The sad thing is that this is just beginning; there are already projects underway to build hotels all the way to the next town down the beach (El Portil), destroying the little tiny sliver of nature that’s left, and to construct a marina on a nearby island.

We feel lucky to have participated in this KLUBA SURFBOARDS project. We encourage you all to join us in one voice speaking out against pollution, globalization, and the manipulation of big multinationals who try every day to destroy our way of life as surfers, and overall as human beings.

"Uwe me dio la tabla y me dijo -toma, pruébala y me dices que te parece, es totalmente ecológica-, nos fuimos a Bordeira con medio metro y viento de levante fuerte y decidí entrar si invento para hacerlo más auténtico... y lo fué, ya en el agua enseguida note que el shape era perfecto y que todo iba a depender de los materiales... la sensación era compacta, nada que ver con los rebotes del epoxi y un poco más pesada que las fabricaciones modernas, lo que daba buenas sensaciones en la pared... me daba la impresión de surfear en el pasado, sin embargo estaba surfeando el futuro, una tabla que te hace sentir bien dentro y fuera del agua... ya solo queda hacerla comercial para pedirle una para mi..."

 Hoy, 1 de enero de 2011, hemos empezado el año nuevo probando una tabla del futuro adelantada a nuestro tiempo, una tabla completamente ecológica. Y paradojas de la vida, este ECOboard, la hemos testado en una de las playas más contaminadas que conocemos, nuestra querida Mazagonia.

A pesar de que hasta hoy todo eran noticias negativas, parece que el 2011 comienza con perspectivas más agradables. La Greenboard llega a Mazagón el mismo día que la Compañía Fertiberia está obligada a dejar de verter residuos tóxicos (nuestros queridos fosfoyesos) en Huelva tras 43 años de contaminación desmedida. Estos fosfoyesos que son los culpables de que Huelva sea mundialmente conocida como una de las ciudades más castigadas por la polución en el antiguo continente (recordemos que Greenpeace y la Universidad de Yale están investigando la relación entre la contaminación onubense y el alto número de problemas cancerígenos en la capital).

Por esta razón, estamos encantados de haber tenido la posibilidad de formar parte en esta iniciativa que esperemos sea tomada como ejemplo para la sociedad en general.

Gracias Uwe por fabricar estas planchas que tanto nos hacen disfrutar y más si cabe aún, haciéndolas utilizando materiales ecológicos.
